Now that you now about DNS, you can do Traceroute experiments using firendly names. To get results also showing friendly names you should set 'Resolve IP Addresses' on.
As a first exercise, do a traceroute to the IETF server. The friendly name is www.ietf.org.
Do a traceroute to the next WWW-servers:
As you have learned, friendly names are convenient to use but they donot give guarantees where the routers or host are exactly located. E.g. friendly names ending with .nl suggest that you have to deal with a Dutch WWW-server. However, it doesnot mean that this server is physically located in the Netherlands.
Find out where the following WWW-servers are located:
You probably have some favorite sites, try to check out where these servers are located and how many hops are needed to reach them.
